Within Zealand you find inspiring and beautiful gardens, offering time and space to enjoy and immerse yourself in the breathtaking surroundings.
A lot of places enthusiasts with a green thumb are more than willing to tell you about the gardens, while at other places you can take a quiet and peaceful stroll or play with the kids.
Also you can enjoy the 8000 square metres large and peaceful oak forest or frolic on one of the many playgrounds in the garden. Additionally, at Birkegårdens Haver you can say hello to donkeys, mini pigs, goats and a lot of other cute animals.
Stroll through the breath of history
For centuries parks and gardens around Holsteinborg Slot and Sorø Akademi, among others, have inspired the greatest Danish painters, poets and authors, for instance H.C. Andersen.
The academy garden at Sorø Akademi right by Sorø Sø can be dated back to the year 1300. Earlier on the garden has been arranged in both French baroque style and in avenue sections, however, today the garden represents an English landscape garden with beautiful samples of ginkgoes, katsura, weeping ash and tulip trees.
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the season´s changing sceneries when “Vildplænen” is blooming in spring with numerous bulb flowers in all the colours of the rainbow, or from mid-June when Fuchsiahaven is at its best with many different kinds of fuchsia.
Cosiness and history
If you bring your kids or grandchildren on your holiday, a visit to the amusement park Sommerland Sjælland offers entertainment for the kids while the rest of the family can relax in one of the beautiful green areas in the park, full of lush flowers.
In Holbæk, a visit to the nature cemetery is recommendable. The cemetery presents both beautiful flowers, art and historical tombs with references dating back to WWII.
