Fairytale surroundings

Many places within Destination Zealand you will find charming manor house atmospheres and impressive castles where you can get really close to Danish cultural heritage and the spectacular tales of the past.

At Løvenborg Slot you can take a walk in the beautiful baroque garden, inspired by both English and French garden style.

You can also visit a lot of other unique gardens within Destination Sjælland – learn more.

At Holsteinborg Slot by Skælskør, the old room of famous H. C. Andersen still remains in the exact way as when the writer stayed there, while Kragerup Gods and the Dinesen family were visited by their relative, the baroness and author Karen Blixen. To this day, it is still relatives that own the manor house.

At Borreby Herreborg you can go to the theatre, go birdwatching or try your abilities in the corn maze at the large annual harvest market.

The majority of the castles and manor houses in the area are privately owned and are only partly or not at all open to visitors. However, there are still plenty of possibilities to enjoy their architectural grandeur and the breath of history from a distance.
