Step into the world of the Vikings at Trelleborg

The Viking fortress Trelleborg is one of Denmark’s impressive attractions and, as part of the ring-shaped Viking fortresses, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As a significant heritage sites, it offers a unique insight into the life of the Vikings.

In the impressive Trelleborg Viking Fortress, you step straight into the world of the Vikings.

Here you travel back in time and immerse yourself deeply in Viking history – among reconstructed Viking houses and an archaeological excavation site. In the exhibition, you can even see Denmark’s only preserved Viking shield.

In the smithy of the small Viking village, a fire is blazing while craftsmen work with wood and textiles. The whole family can get involved: dyeing with plants, forging, casting jewelry, carving runes, or cooking over an open fire.

Trelleborg Viking Festival

In July, the annual week-long Viking festival takes place. More than 1,000 Vikings, around 60 market stalls, and spectacular battles in front of the ramparts of Trelleborg Viking Fortress make these days a truly unforgettable experience.

Denmark’s Largest Viking Market

At the market, you’ll meet blacksmiths, glass bead makers, fur traders, weavers, woodcarvers, and coopers – all working with authentic Viking Age techniques.

Here, you can trade with the Vikings and discover unique treasures – from handwoven clothing and forged weapons to mead, jewellery, and leather goods.

When exactly does the Viking festival at Trelleborg Viking Fortress take place?
You’ll find this and many other exciting activities on the museum’s website and in the full programme.
