Charming islands full of life

The west coast of Zealand presents a nice quintet of cosy islands, where you can really relax and experience the quiet island life. The islands contain beautiful nature and nice experiences.

Agersø and Omø

From Stigsnæs by Skælskør you can take the ferry to the islands Agersø and Omø in the middle of the Great Belt. You can of course also visit the islands in your own boat. At Agersø you can visit the mill, Agersø Mølle, which is a beautifully restored mill from 1892, or you can visit Historiestalden, the history stable, that tells the history of the island.

At Omø you can climb Skovbanken, which is the highest spot in the island with its 24 metres, and from where you have the full view of the island, of the Great Belt Bridget and Smålandsfarvandet, a body of water around the island Lolland.

Orø

From Holbæk you can take the ferry to Orø, the pearl of Isefjorden. The island is the home of the largest population of the rare yellow Widelip Orchid. As many as three beekeepers ensure some delicious island-honey, while you can visit the zoo, Orøstenen (the Orø stone) or Stensbjerg which is the island´s highest spot with a full view of the island.

Nekselø and Sejerø

From Havnsø you can take the ferry to Nekselø and Sejerø. At Nekselø nature is unique due the unique climate there with less rainfall, more sunshine and milder winters. Wear your hiking boots and follow the two trails on the island, which take app. 2.5 hours. Here you may spot the rare and endangered European Fire-bellied toad.

At Sejerø you find both wild peacocks and deer, that you can enjoy together with the unique nature and birdlife on the island.

You can also visit the church or the cultural centre containing both a museum, an art exhibition and an old grocery store.

Ports

Presenting around 400 kilometres of shoreline and fjord stretches, one is tempted to say that within Destination Zealand every city has its own harbour full of atmosphere and history just waiting to be discovered.
